Lost My Voice + Two New Books

Dear Friend,

Starting this past Thursday evening, I lost my voice.

All day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I spoke only through whispers.

I realized how much we rely on our voice for quick tasks and social cues.

It also made me reflect on how much we can fall prey to overextending ourselves.

I've purposefully designed my life such that I spend most of my energy writing.

However, sometimes I find myself out of balance.

I get the random email saying, Hey, Scott, do you have time for a quick meeting?

Or, Hey, Scott - I have a question about such-and-such.

Or, (most insidious of all), while I'm sitting on my ass to write——my brain distracts me with an idea and I suddenly fire off an email to set up a meeting myself!

Instead of replying via text, I recently adopted the habit of creating quick Loom videos.

I rationalized that doing such would save me time.

However, after a certain point, I would overextend myself——and overextend my voice.

To be clear, my primary commitments each week are (1) an hour-long call with my Mastermind group, (2) an hour-long call with my Write to Freedom Alliance, and (3) a Team Operations call.

That's only three calls. That's not bad, right?!

Well, last week, I ended up taking nine calls.

Why?

Because I wasn't strict with my time. I grew lax on saying no.

One of the calls was a high priority, and I'm glad I did the call.

The call I'm referring to was my interview with Stephanie Anne Roy and Ken Caputo. [Link]

This call was 100% worth it. However, because I also took on five other calls during the week, my voice started dying about halfway through!

We discussed their upcoming book, The Spiral, which outlines a fantastic life philosophy framework for designing a life of purpose.

New Book Launching Next Week: The Spiral

Important Note: I highly recommend you get on the Earlybird List for their book. They'll be launching it next week, and they'll be making it available for practically-close-to-free.

Here's where you can sign up for their Earlybird List to Get Their Book:

Oh——heck, since I'm on the topic, I may as well reveal another surprise...

Another New Book Launching This Month: Writing with Emotion

There's another fantastic book coming out at the end of this month. It's written by Kathleen Spracklen, and it's called Writing with Emotion.

Kathleen Spracklen is a world-renowned micro-computing chess champion. She's also one of the early female pioneers in computer science.

She has most recently turned her attention to the craft of writing.

Kathleen has produced an incredible book that surveys all of the components of what it takes to write with emotion.

She'll be launching her book at the end of the month, and she'll be making it available for pretty-darn-close-to-free, as well.

Now, Back to The Topic of Losing My Voice…

After losing my voice, it became a lot easier to say no to random requests for meetings that popped up.

A lot of things seem urgent at the time, but when you can't have a meeting, you end up saving a ton of time. And guess what? The matter gets resolved quickly (through email, text, or otherwise).

There's an Antinetter in our community named Tim Olsen who is permanently without a full functioning voice.

I now see the benefits of this. I don't see this as a disability; rather, it's an advantage!

I found myself saying a lot less and not saying everything that came to mind.

It resulted in three days of much more equanimity.

Anyway, I'm sharing this with you to hopefully remind some of you to say less, speak less, and observe what happens to the mind.

This Month = The Month of Books!

In closing, I want to make you aware of something.

Over the next several weeks, I will be unveiling some fantastic books.

These books are written by independent authors who have decided to pursue their passion and go deep on a topic in an unconventional way.

Get ready. We're entering a renaissance of tiny analog publishers——people who write books by hand, think deeply, and will make a major impact on the world, one reader at a time.

To celebrate this, and to celebrate my wedding at the end of this month, I've decided to offer…

One Final Killer Deal on My Books!

Tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time, I will be making my 594-page book, Antinet Zettelkasten available for $4.24 (shipped worldwide).

I'm doing this to celebrate the date of my wedding (4/24/24).

Therefore, if you want to become a prolific reader, writer, and thinker——and if you want to take notes you'll remember for the rest of your life——then mark your calendar for 1:00 p.m. PT tomorrow.

Warm regards,

And always remember,

To stay crispy, my friend.
